ASSOCIATE IN APPLIED SCIENCE DEGREE IN HEALTHCARE MANAGEMENT
HEGIS CODE: 5299.00

COLLEGE CODE: DCA-6

The Associate in Applied Science Degree in Healthcare Management prepares students for interesting, upwardly mobile careers in the healthecare field. Potential employers include: hospitals, nursing homes, rehab centers, home health care agencies, pharmacies, medical billing companies, doctors' offices and other ambulatory centers, such as ophthalmology, laboratory and sonography facilities. The annual budget for Medicare and Medicaid expenditures accounts for approximately $750 billion, and the overall annual industry budget for all US healthcare expenditures is nearly $1.4 trillion. With the aging of the US population, the emergence and importance of chronic care services, and the proliferation of specialty care facilities of all types, there is a great need for appropriately trained individuals to enter the healthcare sector. According to the National Healthcareer Association, at least three million additional personnel will be required to fill vacancies within the healthcare sector. Needed positions include billing and coding specialists, hospital clerks, medical office administrators, pharmacy technicians, registered nurses and nursing technicians, laboratory, EKG, sonogram, and radiology technicians, ophthalmic staff, and many other types of healthcare workers.
